In the southeast of Morocco, the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi rise up to 150 meters above the village of Merzouga. Sleeping under the stars in a bivouac remains an experience that you never forget.
How many days to plan?
From the north of Morocco, the road is long: allow 3 to 5 days for a comfortable tour. The stages often pass through Ifrane, Midelt, the Ziz valley and the Todra or Dadès gorges.
The best season
- October to April: mild days and cool nights, ideal for the desert.
- May to September: very hot during the day; favor outings early in the morning and late in the afternoon.
- In winter, nights can drop to almost 0°C: bring a real warm layer.
What awaits you there
- A camel ride at sunset to the camp.
- A traditional dinner and an evening around the fire with gnaoua music.
- Sunrise from the top of a dune, a magical moment.
- Optional: quad, sandboard or visit to the villages of Khamlia and Rissani.
Our practical advice
- A scarf (cheche) to protect yourself from the sand and the sun.
- Sunglasses, a headlamp and an external battery.
- Loose clothes during the day and a down jacket for the night.
Going with an organized group simplifies everything: transport, accommodation, bivouac and meals are arranged in advance, and all you have to do is enjoy the landscape.
